Volunteering here is about showing up with kindness and care. Whether you come on your own or with a community or faith group, you’ll be part of creating a space where people feel seen, supported and at home. Some volunteers come once.
Others return regularly. However you’re involved, your time helps build connection, share dignity and make this place feel welcoming for everyone who walks through the doors.

Volunteers support the everyday life of the space in simple, meaningful ways helping with meals, everyday tasks, and offering a friendly presence and conversation. You don’t need special skills or experience, just a willingness to show up with kindness and respect.
Our team will support you and help you feel comfortable as you get started, guiding you through each step along the way.
Attend a 'Come and See' session on Tuesdays at 10am for a relaxed 30-minute to get a feel for the space.
Hold a valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check), or apply for one before or after the session.
Agree to our Confidentiality and Code of Conduct, as part of the orientation process.

Our volunteers undertake a wide range of tasks throughout their shift. Tasks may include serving lunches, making toast for our visitors, barista duties, sorting donations, general cleaning, chatting to our people, and more.

It helps our roster when volunteers serve on the same day each week, however are happy to discuss your availability with you.
If you would like to bring a friend in to volunteer with you, they too will need to complete our volunteer requirements.
Due to the nature of what we do here, Emmanuel City Mission is an 18+ facility. In saying this, there are some instances where teenagers serve with us, and this is predominately through our schools lunch program. If you would like to bring someone under the age of 18, please discuss this with us first so we can outline requirements with you.
Please wear closed-in shoes and comfortable, practical clothing. We ask that clothing is modest and not revealing. You don’t need to bring anything just come ready to be present and get involved.
