Night Sanctuary is here

A few weeks ago, in the first week of November, something special began at Emmanuel City Mission.

Our doors stayed open through the night offering warmth, safety, rest, and care to those in our city who need it most. Since then, Night Sanctuary has been running every Wednesday, and the impact has already been profound.

Take a look inside:
Here’s a short video giving you a glimpse into what Night Sanctuary looks and feels like, the people you’re helping, the meals you’re providing, and the moments of peace you’re making possible.

A heartfelt thank you to Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner for championing this vital initiative, and to everyone who helped bring Night Sanctuary to life. Your support has transformed a long-held hope into a real, living space of care.

Why Night Sanctuary matters

For many people in Brisbane, nights are the hardest of all. Without a safe, quiet place to rest, each night becomes another battle - physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Night Sanctuary changes that. Each Wednesday night offers:

  • A warm, home-cooked meal

  • A secure place to sleep

  • Showers and amenities

  • Friendly faces and human connection

  • A moment of peace and dignity in the middle of hardship

One guest told us they hadn’t slept in a bed for nearly a year. Another said it was the best night’s sleep they’d had in as long as they can remember. These moments are made possible by you.

A vision for 7 nights

Night Sanctuary currently operates one night a week, but the vision is much bigger, to open our doors seven nights a week, offering safety and care every single night of the year.

As need continues to rise across Brisbane, expanding Night Sanctuary is not just a dream it’s essential. And with your ongoing support, we believe it’s within reach.

Together we made Night Sanctuary a reality

From the first warm meal to the last goodnight, Night Sanctuary is a reminder of what community compassion can achieve.

To Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, Brisbane City Council, our donors, volunteers, supporters, and friends, thank you.

You’ve helped create a place where people can rest, recover, and feel human again.

We look forward to sharing more updates as Night Sanctuary continues to grow.
