Homelessness Week 2025

Homelessness Week 2025 runs from Monday 4 August to Sunday 10 August, and this year’s theme couldn’t be more fitting, “Homelessness Action Now.”

At Emmanuel City Mission, we don’t just talk about homelessness, we sit beside it every day. We know that behind every statistic is a story, a name, a person. That’s why this week is so important to us.

What is Homelessness Week?

Homelessness Week is about putting the spotlight on the rising number of people without a safe place to call home and demanding real action. More than 122,000 Australians are experiencing homelessness on any given night. That includes families, young people, women escaping violence, and people just like you or me who’ve hit hard times.

This week is about breaking down stigma, building compassion, and pushing for the kind of change that creates dignity and safety for all.

Thanks for making Homelessness Week one that we can celebrate and one that we can know we’re doing something proactive to move forward, recognising that every person has dignity and worth.

What makes Emmanuel City Mission Different?

At Emmanuel City Mission, we believe everyone deserves to be treated like family.

We’re not a service. We’re a family living room. A sanctuary. A big-hearted, warm, sometimes messy, always welcoming where kindness comes first. Our visitors are not clients, they’re brothers and sisters. And we offer more than just a meal or a shower. We offer dignity, respect, and human connection.

Every day, people walk through our doors and feel seen. That’s where healing begins.

In Their Words, Our Family Speaks

To mark Homelessness Week, we created a short video series featuring just a few of the people who make ECM what it is, a visitor, two of our incredible volunteers, and our much-loved team Director, Roby.

We asked them simple but powerful questions:

“How has ECM helped you, or someone you know?”
“What makes a place like ECM important in our city?”

Their answers are honest, moving, and deeply human. These are the stories that don’t always make the news — but they should.

What Can You Do This Homelessness Week?

If you’re wondering how to get involved, here’s how to take action:

  1. Watch and share the videos with your community.

  2. Talk about homelessness ,bust myths and build understanding.

  3. Support Emmanuel City Mission by donating, volunteering, or just spreading the word.

Because real action doesn’t always look like a press release or a policy change. Sometimes it looks like pulling up a chair beside someone who’s struggling and saying, “You matter. You belong here.”

That’s what Emmanuel City Mission is all about.

And this Homelessness Week, we’re inviting you to be part of that action.

Homelessness Action Now. Because no one should be left behind.
