Introducing Thread Together

I want you to think about your favourite item of clothing in your wardrobe right now. What do you love about it? Maybe you love the way it fits you like a glove. (Heck, maybe it is a glove, I don’t know!) Maybe this item of clothing really expresses who you are as a person, accentuating your individuality. Perhaps this item of clothing holds some kind of sentimental value.

Do you have the item of clothing in your mind right now? Good.

For a street person their clothing might not even fit them properly. It may not even be something they like, but it was a hand-me-down that was there for them when they had nothing else. Now imagine that you handed this person a brand-new Calvin Klein shirt…

“Nice one! Where did you get this from, bro?!” “Are you sure that I can have this, sis?!” These are the sort of comments you will hear on a daily basis here at Emmanuel City Mission, and I bet you are wondering how we do it.

Introducing Thread Together…

Thread Together is an organisation that just really gets it. They understand the importance of being clothed in dignity. Our visitors deserve to be clothed in clothing that fits them well, helps them to feel confident, and tells the world that they are someone who is worthy of respect.

Thread Together was born out of necessity. In a world that is forever growing more obsessed with consumption, we are now seeing fast fashion as one of the major contributors to pollution world-wide. Crazy, right?! Thread Together is helping to solve this problem. By taking end-of line, brand new stock from major fashion retailers and donating it to humble organisations like ours, Thread Together is helping to change lives and the planet also.

Instead of these clothes being left to live out the rest of their days in landfill, they are now keeping the most vulnerable in our society warm… and looking pretty trendy while they’re at it.

Our partnership with Thread Together has been a Godsend. Rather than giving our visitors clothing that might be full of holes and 5 times too big, we can provide them with a whole outfit that fits them perfectly and that they feel confident in! It is amazing what clothing can do for someone. Every day, I have the privilege of seeing our sisters absolutely THRIVING in a new pair of well-fitted leggings, and I see the comfort on their faces when they are handed underwear that actually fits them properly.
