The year that was
Happy New Year to each of you, and what an incredibly blessed year of mission we shared in 2021. Whilst the new year has only begun, it seems a lifetime since even the Christmas Festival, and all the events, moments and visits at ECM.
I take this opportunity to show my continued thanks to the source of all goodness and provision, the One whom sustains His people in the midst of adversity, and lifts the lowly in their times of distress. We begun this journey in faith, and we continue in faith, always giving thanks to our God, whom name is Jesus, for taking care of the poor of our city and each of those whom have kindly served and supported this mission in our time! To God be the Glory.
Well, it’s hard to look past the Christmas Festival, when I reflect on the year of 2021! What an incredibly finale to a very full year and abundant year, however the Christmas Festival once again, providing sanctuary for 5 nights off the street, proved to be the best possible contribution we could all make to our people at that time of year! I was fortunate to be on the evening shift until 3:00am, and each night was filled with some of the most memorable and tender moments with visitors. Countries visitors in awe that the venue would be open 24 hours at that time of year, and sharing deep sentimental words of appreciation and suggesting that ‘ECM literally prolongs my life at this time of the year Rob...’
The reality is, this Festival is only possibly due to our incredibly staff, volunteers, support groups, schools, community groups, and of course, our donors, they literally make this bold dream and desire a reality, and what an impact of the Brisbane city we are able to achieve! Each of you have made this possible, and on behalf of the 47 whom took refuge at ECM at Christmas, safe and warm from the street, God bless you and your household!
In the festive spirit, it’s important to acknowledge that in what was another difficult year for the global and local community, we also hosted an Easter Festival and an Arts Festival. These were equally incredibly days and nights off the streets, whereby visitors were able to access the venue and services across the day and evening, whilst being welcomed into an environment of kindness from all whom supported these events. Incredible meals, entertainment, artwork, and a finale Street Photography exhibition Awards Evening. All of the components made for such a rich experience for our people, with many of them finding encouragement to press forward in their own personal circumstance and journey. This is always our desired outcome from any activity or event ECM provides, to believe that our people can claim truth over their identity, talents and passions for life, by witnessing environments and people whereby they can flourish.
Everyday is a sacred moment at ECM! We are open every day, and we are on the cusp of operational growth. We hope towards a 24 hour weekly Wednesday later in the year, and I know that together we can achieve this!
I pray this year may be a blessed year for each of you and your families. Please keep ECM in your prayers and thoughts daily. I look forward to sharing this years mission with you.
God Is With Us,
Roby Curtis
